The violinist is a regular performer at major internationally renowned festivals such as Verbier Festival, Kuhmo Festival, Miyazaki Festival and others. She has performed in Tonhalle Zurich, La Scala, la Fenice and la Pergola Theatre, Auditorio Nacional Madrid, Seoul Art Center and Tchaikovsky Hall. Born in Moscow, Svetlana Makarova was a child prodigy: at the age of 10 she won the First Prize in the Moscow International Youth Tchaikovsky Competition, and this was followed by many other distinctions. In 2008, having earned her Ph.D. and completed her both master and postgraduates studies at the Moscow Conservatoire with Prof. M. Glezarova, she was invited by Lorin Maazel to take a position as one of the principal players in the Palau de Les Artes Reina Sofia in Spain. She collaborates globally with, among others, such esteemed musicians as F. Helmerssohn, P. Vernikov, N. Gutman, G. Apap, L. Auerbach, S. Krylov, I. Golan, P. Demenga, F. Biondi to name a few. She is also an accomplished soloist, having performed with Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica Orchestra, Miyazaki Festival Orchestra, Württemberg Philharmonic Orchestra and The Pforzheim Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of Comunidad Valenciana, Korean Soloists Orchestra, Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Odessa State Symphony orchestra, Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra. Svetlana Makarova recorded several CDs and was featured in many radio broadcasts. Passionate about teaching, she splits her time between performing and sharing her knowledge and artistic experience with next generation. Among her students there are winners of several prestigious International Competitions. Before becoming Professor at HEMU Lausanne in 2011 she taught at renowned Gnessin’s College of Music in Moscow. Svetlana Makarova gives numerous masterclasses in Europe and Asia. An internationally reclaimed pedagogue, she is regularly invited as a member of jury of international competitions and awards.
