Music Online (Alexander Street Press)

https://search.alexanderstreet.com/

The ‘Music Online’ database from Alexander Street Press comprises four parts:

- Classical Scores Library vol. I
A collection of printed music, music manuscripts and previously unpublished material from the 15th to the 20th century. Various genres of music are covered, including orchestral and chamber music, opera, song, instrumental and choral music, as well as different types of scores. The database also contains sources that are not yet copyright-free. One exception, however, is the material published by Boosey & Hawkes, for which no rights of use could be acquired.

- Classical Music Reference Library
Compilation of relevant reference works totalling approx. 55,000 pages on the history of Western classical music from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. Included are factual and personal articles from renowned reference works such as ‘Baker's Dictionary of Music’ (1997), ‘Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians’ (6 volumes, 2001), ‘Baker's Student Encyclopedia of Music’ (3 volumes, 1999) or ‘Women Composers’ (7 volumes, 1996-2003).

- African American Music Reference
Comprehensive reference work and collection of rare or previously unpublished materials on the history of African-American music from its beginnings to the 1970s, totalling over 45,000 pages. It covers a wide range of musical styles, genres and forms of expression such as blues, jazz, spirituals, gospel, Civil War songs, slave songs, rhythm and blues, and more.

- The Garland Encyclopedia of World Music Online
Comprehensive standard reference work with over 1200 detailed factual and personal articles and approx. 9200 pages on traditional ethnomusicology worldwide, edited by James Porter and Timothy Rice. The digital edition offers convenient access to the complete text of the 10-volume printed edition of the same name (1998-2002) as well as all illustrations, drawings, music examples, musical examples, tables and diagrams.
