University Orchestra

The University Orchestra is one of the most excellent orchestras in its category in Germany. In its tradition as the first orchestral school in Germany, the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar has always paid special attention to intensive rehearsals and the best possible performance quality of its most important youth ensemble. For students of orchestral instruments, this practical musical experience is an integral and indispensable part of their studies, and at the same time serves as preparation for their future professional life. The university orchestra has earned itself a reputation that extends far beyond Weimar. Although the student orchestra experiences a rotation of instrumentation in almost every semester, the symphony concerts, which usually take place in the Weimarhalle, succeed at a consistently high level. All the students are passionate about music and work with great dedication to achieve professional success, so that the varied concert programmes, with their large-scale repertoire works, rarely performed concertos or even world premieres, are refined to the highest possible level of perfection and interpretative radiance during the semester-long project work. The soloists are mostly advanced students at the university who, with their performance, complete an important part of their concert exam as the highest artistic degree.
