Chamber Choir

The Chamber Choir of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar is made up of students specialising in school music, church music and conducting, as well as students from neighbouring universities. It was founded in 1926 as the national Madrigal Choir by Walter Rein and quickly developed into one of the music university's top ensembles. Since 1997, the choir has been directed by Prof. Jürgen Puschbeck, who was once a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor himself. The chamber choir primarily performs a cappella literature from the 16th to the 21st century. It consciously gives space to works by Thuringian and Saxon composers, as well as premieres. In addition, vocal symphonies are an integral part of the repertoire: Bach's Passions, the B minor Mass, the Christmas Oratorio, Mozart's Requiem, Bruckner's E minor Mass, Brahms' Requiem and Liszt's Graner Mass are just a few examples. Here, as in other projects, the choir has worked with renowned conductors, including Kurt Masur, Fabio Luisi, Max Pommer, Helmut Rilling, Georg Christoph Biller, Ton Koopman, Konrad Junghänel and John Butt. Concerts have been recorded by MDR, HR, BR and ORF, and numerous CDs have been produced. Alongside its concert activities, the chamber choir is also committed to its aim of providing training for its own choral singing and choral conducting activities.
