thoska card

The so called thoska (Thüringer Hochschul- und Studentenwerkskarte) combines a number of functions, and is an essential part of everyday student life. It acts as:

  • Student ID
  • Payment card in canteens, cafeterias, and for courses at the University's sports centre (USZ)
  • Photocopying card (credit managementrecharging)
  • Library card
  • Key to relevant buildings/rooms

Posting of cash amounts

At the top-up terminals, an amount of money can be topped up to the thoska electronic wallet using the ec card (and cash), minimum 10 euros, maximum 200 euros. 

Locations of the top-up terminals:

  • Canteen (EC and cash) 
  • Marienstraße 13a ("green door" EC only) 
  • Marienstraße 15a, Infothek (EC and bar, open 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.) 
  • University Library, Steubenstraße 6 (upper foyer, EC only)

Note: The Thoska and temporary student ID cards no longer entitle the holder to use public transport, either locally or throughout Thuringia.

The ticket is always issued as a mobile phone ticket. Your university access data is required to retrieve the ticket. Once you have successfully retrieved the ticket, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with explanations on how to display it in the apps of the respective transport companies at your university location.
