Department of New Music and Jazz
When the Department of New Music and Jazz was established in 2015, this marked the creation of a progressive department of contemporary music. The department does not just focus on new music and jazz: it also looks at the crossovers between these two musical disciplines. This merger creates space for new ‘hybrid’ forms of composition and improvisation.
These integrated structures can be made a reality through the new, modular approach to the Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, in particular: students have greater freedom of choice within their course and can draw inspiration from various sources.
