Day of action: KUNST.MACHT.MENSCHLICHKEIT

The Weimar Music University is participating in the nationwide day of action organised by the 24 state music academies.

On 27 November 2025, the music academies will jointly send a clear signal against discrimination and abuse of power. Each academy will organise this day individually.

“We will do everything we can to ensure that German music colleges provide an environment characterized by respect, trust, tolerance, and humanity,” said Prof. Christian Fischer, Chairman of the RKM. With this day of action, the Rectors' Conference of German Music Colleges is sending a clear public signal in favor of open discussion of power relations, prevention, and structural change—both internally and externally.

The day of action is aimed at all students, teachers and employees in technology and administration.

At the HfM Weimar, we are addressing the issue of how to prevent the abuse of power in various formats. There will be presentations, workshops and discussions.

These questions guide us:

  • What does a university community look like for me in which I can flourish in my studies, teaching and work?
  • How can necessary power be used sensibly, respectfully and healthily?
  • What can I myself contribute to shaping this community?
  • What hinders my creative power (as a student, employee, teacher)?
  • Which topics do we need to discuss more? With whom?

The action day starts at the Weimar Music University at 2 p.m. in the Saal Am Palais with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Alexandra Kertz-Welzel (LMU Munich): "Utopian thinking at music academies"

This will be followed by parallel workshops. The day will conclude at around 5.30 p.m. with a reflection. Finally, we will celebrate what we have experienced.
