Communication, Prevention, Integration

Communication

The way we speak to one another shapes the atmosphere at the university. The University of Music offers training in respectful and nonviolent communication and is working to foster a shared culture of feedback. In the “Macht.Pause.Talks.” discussion series, people from all status groups come together during the lunch break to discuss power and university structures.

At the same time, a mission statement on the sensitive handling of power is being developed through a participatory process. This will serve as the foundation for a Code of Conduct, which is being developed in collaboration with students, faculty, and administrative staff.

Prevention

Prevention means: being vigilant before something happens and knowing what to do if something does happen. Workshops on conceptual clarification define what constitutes abuse of power, boundary violations, and inappropriate behavior, and outline possible courses of action.

Mental health is also an integral part of prevention. The Mental Health Days and the “Studying with Mental Well-Being” program address performance pressure, exam anxiety, and psychological stress in arts degree programs.

To make it easier to find help, the SOS page is being reorganized by issue. A multilingual flyer lists the contact persons for counseling and support.

Integration

New students at the University of Music should be able to settle in quickly—academically, linguistically, and personally. In the Liszt Buddy Program, experienced students mentor newcomers during their first semester and exam periods.
