Svetlana Makarova is an internationally acclaimed violinist and pedagogue, performing regularly at prestigious concert halls and renowned international festivals around the world. A prizewinner from an early age, she won First Prize at the International Youth Tchaikovsky Competition at the age of ten, followed by numerous other international awards and distinctions. She earned her Ph.D. from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory under the guidance of Professor Maya Glezarova. From 2008 to 2011, she served as one of the principal players at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, working at the invitation of Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta. As a chamber musician, she has collaborated with distinguished artists including Janine Jansen, Lera Auerbach, Richard Galliano, Frans Helmerson, Heinz Holliger, Itamar Golan, Natalia Gutman, Simon Trpčeski and Pavel Vernikov. Her recordings have been released by Naxos, and her performances are regularly featured in international radio broadcasts. Since 2014, Svetlana Makarova has been Professor of Violin at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne. She has also held a professorship at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and serves as Guest Professor at the Conservatori Liceu in Barcelona and the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Bergamo. She regularly gives masterclasses at leading institutions worldwide, and her students have won prizes at major international competitions and secured positions in orchestras around the world. An internationally respected pedagogue, Svetlana Makarova is frequently invited to serve as a jury member at major international competitions. She performs on a 1745 Niccolò Gagliano violin.
