Robert D. Levin | Piano

16 - 22 July 2023

The American pianist Robert Levin performs all over the world.  On the concert grand, he has performed with the orchestras of all the greatest orchestras from Europe, North and South America, Asia, and Australia; on the fortepiano, with renowned early music orchestras. His revival of the practice of improvised cadenzas and ornaments in the Viennese Classical period has been recognized worldwide. Recordings have appeared on many labels, including complete recordings of Mozart's piano concertos with Christopher Hogwood and The Academy of Ancient Music and of Beethoven with John Eliot Gardiner and the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, all of Mozart's piano sonatas on his own fortepiano, and many others.
A passionate advocate of new music, Robert Levin has received numerous commissions and premieres. His active work as a chamber musician includes a long collaboration with violist Kim Kashkashian and a duo with his wife, pianist Ya-Fei Chuang. In addition to his concert activities, Robert Levin is a music theorist and Mozart expert. His additions to unfinished compositions by Mozart, including the Requiem and the Mass in C Minor, have been published, recorded, and performed around the world. From 2007 to 2016, Robert Levin was Artistic Director of the Sarasota/FL Music Festival.  He is President of the Johann Sebastian Bach International Competition and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  From 1993 to 2014 he was Dwight P. Robinson, Jr. Professor of Humanities at Harvard University and holds visiting professorships at the Juilliard School New York, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama London, and the Sibelius Academy Helsinki.
