Troels Svane | Violoncello

Troels Svane studied with David Geringas at the Lübeck Music university. He also received lessons from Anner Bylsma, Frans Helmerson, Ralph Kirshbaum, György Ligeti, Yo-Yo Ma, Siegfried Palm, Boris Pergamenschikow, Mstislav Rostropovich, Daniil Shafran, Paul Tortelier, and the Amadeus Quartet. At the age of 18, he became deputy principal cellist of the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to numerous scholarships, he has won national and international prizes.

As a soloist, he has been invited to perform with most Danish orchestras and with orchestras in Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, and Switzerland. Troels Svane has performed in recitals and as a chamber musician throughout Europe, Australia, Asia, South America, and the USA. He has given concerts with Yuri Bashmet, Wolfgang Boettcher, Thomas Brandis, Zakhar Bron, Ana Chumachenco, Ulf Hoelscher, Karl Leister, Sabine Meyer, and Thomas Zehetmair, among others. He has also recorded more than 40 CDs, including the complete works for cello and piano by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and Reger.

After eleven years as David Geringas' assistant, he was appointed professor of cello at the Lübeck Music university in 2004. Troels Svane also teaches a cello class at the University of Music „Hanns Eisler“ in Berlin. He has given master classes in Australia, Asia, Ukraine, South America, and numerous European countries, and has served as a juror at major international competitions.
