Tanja Becker-Bender was born in Stuttgart into a family of musicians and scientists of Bohemian origin. At an early age, she received top prizes at international competitions in Geneva (CIEM), Chimay (CIM), Tokyo (Bunkamura Orchard Hall Award), Houston (Symphony League), Gorizia (Lipizer), and Genoa (Premio Niccolò Paganini). This was followed by solo performances under the baton of Kurt Masur, Gerd Albrecht, Lothar Zagrosek, Günter Herbig, Uriel Segal, Fabio Luisi, Hartmut Haenchen, and others with renowned orchestras such as the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Houston Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart of the SWR, Konzerthaus Orchestra Berlin, the Vienna, Zurich, and Prague Chamber Orchestras, and the English Chamber Orchestra.
As an enthusiastic chamber musician, Tanja Becker-Bender has also played at festivals alongside Gidon Kremer, Boris Pergamenschikow, Donald Weilerstein, Claudio Bohórquez, Manuel Fischer-Dieskau, Ewa Kupiec, Lawrence Power, Eduard Brunner, and Michel Lethiec, and has given recitals in New York, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Paris, Rome, and Vienna.
Tanja Becker-Bender received her musical training from some of the leading quartet musicians of our time: after studying with Wilhelm Melcher (Melos Quartet) at the Music university in Stuttgart, she studied with Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet) at the Music university in Vienna. She then completed her Artist Diploma with Robert Mann (Juilliard String Quartet) at the Juilliard School in New York. In 2006, Tanja Becker-Bender was appointed as one of Germany's youngest professors to succeed Maxim Vengerov at the University of Music in Saarbrücken. In 2009, she took up a professorship at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg.
