Imre Rohmann | Piano

The pianist was born in Budapest (Hungary) and studied piano and composition at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in his hometown, among other places. On the national and international stage, Imre Rohmann won a special prize at the Hungarian Radio Piano Competition (1973), third prize at the International Liszt-Bartók Piano Competition in Budapest (1976), and first prize at the International Leo Weiner Chamber Music Competition in Bloomington, USA (1980).
In 1969, after performing as a soloist in Mozart's “Coronation Concerto” at the Berlin Philharmonic, he began his continuous concert career as a soloist, chamber musician, and now also as a conductor throughout Europe, the USA, and Canada. Since his first tour of Japan in 1976, he has maintained close ties with this country, where he also teaches every year.
Concert appearances have taken him to the Staatskapelle Dresden, Dresden Philharmonic, Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Budapest Symphony Orchestra, Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra, Radio Symphony Orchestra Ljubljana, and many others. He has worked with artists such as Eugen Jochum, Jörg Demus, Adam and Ivan Fischer, Stefan Ruha, Miklós Perényi, Zoltán Kocsis, András Schiff, Péter Eötvös, and Ilona Tokody. Since 1985, he has also played in a piano duo with Tünde Kurucz.
Imre Rohmann was artistic director and conductor of the Budapest Chamber Symphony (2003-2013). He taught at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest from 1977 to 1984, was a visiting professor at the University of the Arts in West Berlin in 1984/85, and was a professor at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg (Austria) from 1990 to 2023.
