Anna Garzuly-Wahlgren | Flute

3 - 8 August 2026
For seven years, Anna Garzuly-Wahlgren taught as a professor of wind chamber music and flute at the universities of music in Leipzig and Weimar. Starting in the summer semester of 2024, she accepted a full professorship in flute at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music in Leipzig. She is personally committed to promoting the musical development of her students and supporting and accompanying the growth and consolidation of their personalities.
Born in Hungary, she has traveled extensively through her music: her studies took her to Budapest, Munich, and New York. During this time, she was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, won numerous prizes at international competitions, and, at the age of 24, was immediately hired as deputy principal flutist in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.
This was followed by many years as acting principal flutist, numerous concert experiences with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, travels, recordings, and solo concerts. Chamber music was a constant companion for her, as she played in various formations alongside her orchestral work. These include the Sabine Meyer Ensemble, the Linos Ensemble, the “Armonia” wind ensemble—and, for more than 25 years, her flute ensemble “Quintessenz.”
