Markus Leoson - Percussion

17 – 22 July 2022

Unfortunately, this course had to be cancelled.

His career started early and went steeply upwards: As a young student at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, he was admitted at the age of 15 and graduated just four years later. At the age of 20, the Royal Court Orchestra in Stockholm engaged him as a percussionist, and a year later he became principal timpanist with the Danish Radio Orchestra. But Markus Leoson returned to Stockholm and became principal timpanist of the Royal Court Orchestra in 1993. Among his greatest competition successes was a 2nd prize (when 1st prize was not awarded) in 1997 at the ARD Music Competition in Munich. The percussionist remained in Stockholm for 15 years until he was appointed Professor of Percussion at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar in 2008. Markus Leoson now performs as a solo percussionist throughout Europe and Asia and gives master classes worldwide. His first solo CD in 1996 was followed by many more, of which the recording Markussion was nominated for the Swedish Grammy Awards in 2003. Website
