Alexey Stadler | Violoncello

19 - 25 July 2025

Alexey Stadler has earned an excellent reputation as a soloist with orchestras such as the San Francisco Symphony, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana. He has performed under the direction of conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Vasily Petrenko, Michael Sanderling, Robert Trevino, Tugan Sokhiev, Valery Gergiev and Marek Janowski. His chamber music partners include renowned artists such as Jörg Widmann, Igor Levit, Alice Sara Ott, Viviane Hagner and the Quatuor Ébène. He has made a lasting impression at international festivals, including the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Heidelberger Frühling, the International Chamber Music Festival Stavanger, the Menuhin Festival Gstaad and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the 2024/25 season, not only solo concerts with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Staatskapelle Weimar and the Hamburger Symphoniker are planned, but also participation in the renowned Beethoven Festival Warsaw and Finest Classic in Mannheim. Born in St. Petersburg, Stadler first received an intensive instrumental education while also immersing himself in the subjects of music theory, harmony and orchestration at the Rimsky-Korsakov Music College. His path soon led him into international realms. He also received inspiration on the cello from greats such as Frans Helmerson and David Geringas. On recommendation, Alexey Stadler met Prof. Wolfgang E. Schmidt and recognised in him the teacher who would accompany him from his artistic studies through to his concert exam. The University of Music FRANZ LISZT and the cultural city of Weimar became the centre of Stadler's life. A period of intensive musical work that was soon rewarded with the leap into an international career. The starting point was winning first prize at the Hamburg TONALi competition in 2012 – further events followed in quick succession. Stadler achieved his international breakthrough and has since performed as a soloist with orchestras worldwide. Since 2023, he has been passing on his knowledge to the younger generation: Alexey Stadler teaches as a professor of cello at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre.
