Stefan Schilli | Oboe

Stefan Schilli studied at the music academies in Trossingen and Karlsruhe before becoming principal oboist in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1991 at the age of just twenty.
In 1996, he won the international competitions "Prague Spring" and the ARD competition, having already won the "German Music Competition" in 1993. Also in 1996, he received the "Brüder-Busch-Preis", which has been awarded to exceptionally talented musicians since 1970. He celebrated his debut in the Berlin Philharmonie with Richard Strauss' oboe concerto, accompanied by the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin. As a soloist, he has performed with renowned conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Mariss Jansons, Sir Colin Davis, Reinhard Goebel, Christopher Hogwood, Franz Welser-Möst and Dennis Russell-Davies. Guest appearances have taken him regularly to South East Asia, the USA, Russia and renowned festivals such as the Edinburgh Festival, the Bath Festival and the Pablo Casals Festival in the south of France.  In addition to his professorship at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, which he has held since 2004, Stefan Schilli is a permanent guest lecturer at major institutions such as the Escuela Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the Julliard School in New York and McGill University in Montreal. Stefan Schilli has also dedicated himself to playing historical oboe instruments for many years and is a founding member of the baroque ensemble "L'Accademia Giocosa".
