Frøydis Ree Wekre - Horn

25 - 31 July 2021

First violin and piano, then the horn: Norwegian Frøydis Ree Wekre discovered a passion for her instrument at the age of 17. She studied in Sweden, Russia and the USA with professors like Wilhelm Lanzky-Otto and Vitali Bujanowskij, and in 1960 received her first engagement at the Norwegian Opera. From 1965 to 1991 Frøydis Ree Wekre was principal horn in the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. To pass on her experience seamlessly to the next generation, in 1991 she was appointed professor for horn and wind chamber music at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. Frøydis Ree Wekre has also long been regarded as one of the world's finest educators and is author of the book "Thoughts on playing the horn well" of which she gives readings as well as master classes - and now for the fourth time in Weimar. Numerous composers have dedicated works to her, which she has also recorded on CD. Frøydis Ree Wekre has been an honorary member of the International Horn Society since 1994.
