Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek

The Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek is not a university library. Rather, it is a publicly accessible research library for the history of literature and culture, offering every student the opportunity to expand their research. It focuses on German literature from the period from 1750 to 1850. It houses almost 900,000 volumes, including incunabula, manuscripts, music and music manuscripts (situation prior to the fire of 2 Sept 2004). In addition, it has a sizeable stock of journals, microfilms, sound media and CD-ROMs.

University Library of the Bauhaus Universität Weimar

The Bauhaus Universität Weimar (abbreviated to BUW) offers a public academic library that provides its own students and students at the UoM alike, with a broad spectrum of fields of research. With almost 400,000 volumes and more than 1,000 ongoing journals on the subjects of architecture, the arts, media and sociology (to list a few), this library is of interest to people who are not studying at Bauhaus. Visitors can use the library on-site, borrow works and take out inter-library loans, as well as carry out research on CD-ROMs and external databases.

Stadtbücherei Weimar (Municipal Library)

The opening hours have been staggered, to make the city library a good alternative to the university library for all students. It has a large selection of books, images and journals, as well as music, recordings, videos and CD-ROMs.

Libraries at Friedrich Schiller University Jena

The Thuringian University and State Library (ThULB) Jena is composed of main libraries, sub-libraries and branch libraries, all located at different sites and with different opening hours. The INFORMATION CENTRE, in the ThULB’s new building (Bibliotheksplatz 2), is a good place to find your feet, with key reference works and catalogues for older literature, as is the central BORROWING STATION with a collection of textbooks (Level 0).
FSU Jena’s MUSICOLOGY WORKING LIBRARY is currently being constructed and is located on Level 4 of the new building.
