Wide-Ranging Musical Impact

The university consciously desires to impact society with its actions. Its goal is to raise public interest for the activities of teaching, research, and performance. As part of this, it maintains communication with all social strata and numerous social support agencies.

The university is not only one of the most important cultural organisations in the region with a multitude of concerts in its own halls, in churches, the event centre ‘Weimarhalle’, and external concert locations. It also actively participates in the entire breadth of music education. A great number of choirs and ensembles in Weimar and the region are run by the students at the university who actively form musical life here.

Teachers engage in multigenerational amateur work through classes, such as running string classes, child and senior vocal coaching, and the teaching programme ‘JeKi’ which stand for “an instrument for every child”.

Our university is a founding member of the society for the ‘Kinderuniversität’ or ‘Kid’s Uni’ Weimar which takes a range of lecture topics, including music, makes them child-appropriate and offers them each semester.

The university’s staff and ideals are represented in the state music council Thuringia ‘Landesmusikrat Thüringen’.

In the area of elementary music teaching there are also additional projects which go beyond early education and focus on special target groups, such as refugees, criminal offenders, or the elderly. The university supports the work of the society Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Weimar e.V.
