  • 1970 born in Bietigheim-Bissingen (Ludwigsburg)
  • 1991-1997 studied musicology, early German literature and art history in Tübingen and Erlangen
  • 1997 Magister artium in musicology in Erlangen with a thesis on tropes on the Reichenau in the Ottonian period; subsequently research assistant on the DFG project Introitus-Tropen in Quellen ober- und mittelitalienischer Herkunft: Kritische Edition der Melodien and research assistant at the Erlangen Department of Musicology with a teaching assignment
  • 2002 Doctorate (Dr. phil.) with the dissertation Die Musikgeschichte der Abtei Reichenau im 10. und 11. Jahrhundert. Ein Versuch (published in Stuttgart in 2003) and awarded the doctoral prize of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Erlangen; then research assistant and Socrates representative at the Department of Musicology in Erlangen
  • 2007 Appointed Academic Councillor and head of the microfilm collection of medieval music manuscripts (Bruno Stäblein Archive) in Erlangen and editor of the Monumenta monodica medii aevi edition series
  • Since 2007 member of the Study Group Cavalli and Seventeenth Century Venetian Opera of the International Musicological Society and member of the editorial board of the edition Francesco Cavalli: Opere (Bärenreiter-Verlag)
  • 2008 Habilitation in musicology; topic of the written habilitation thesis: Italian opera in France in the 17th century
  • 2008-2010 Substitute for a W2 professorship for historical musicology (specialising in older music history) at the FSU Jena
  • 2010 Appointment as Full Professor of Musicology (specialising in Early Music History) at the FSU Jena
  • 2010-2013 Corresponding member (European section) of the Society for Seventeenth-Century Music
  • Since 2014 member of the committee of the Interdisciplinary Medievalist Working Group of the Herzog-August-Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel, since 2017 deputy chairman
  • 2017-2021 Head of the DFG project "Development of an internet platform: Theatre and music in Weimar. Digitisation, recording, academic processing and online presentation of Weimar playbills from the 1969/70 season to the political change in 1989/90" (until 2018 together with Bernhard Post)
  • Since 2020 member of the editorial board of Recercare. Rivista per lo studio e la pratica della musica antica, ed. Arnaldo Morelli
  • since 2021 Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Study Centre Venice
  • since Oct. 2022 Acting Director of the Department of Musicology Weimar-Jena
