Repertoire

The total repertoire for the 10th International JOSEPH JOACHIM Competition | Chamber Music 2025 consists of 8 different original works, which may not be repeated within the competition program:

String Quartet and Piano Trio:

  • Two works from the category EARLY CLASSIC
  • One work from the category LATE CLASSIC
  • Two works from the category ROMANTIC
  • Two works from the category COMPOSED BETWEEN 1900 AND 1970
  • One work from the category COMPOSED AFTER 1970


First Round
a) A work by Joseph Haydn from the category EARLY CLASSIC
b) A work from the category COMPOSED BETWEEN 1900 AND 1970
Program duration approx. 30 minutes
If the program is too long, the jury will choose the movements to be played.

Second Round
a) A work from the category LATE CLASSIC
b) A work from the category ROMANTIC
c) A work from the category COMPOSED AFTER 1970
Program duration approx. 60 minutes
If the program is too long, the jury will select the movements to be played.

Final
a) A work from the category EARLY CLASSIC
b) A work from the category ROMANTIC
c) A work from the category COMPOSED BETWEEN 1900 AND 1970

1) The category EARLY CLASSIC includes:
All works by Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Ludwig van Beethoven: String Quartets op. 18 | Piano Trios op. 1, op. 11, op. 44
Franz Schubert: String Quartet No. 1 | Piano Trio in B flat major D 28

2) The category LATE CLASSIC includes:
Ludwig van Beethoven: all string quartets from op. 59 | piano trios op. 70 and op. 97
Franz Schubert: all string quartets and piano trios except those mentioned under 1)

3) The category ROMANTIC comprises among others:
All works by C. Debussy, E. v. Dohnányi, G. Fauré, C. Saint-Saëns, E. Elgar, M. Ravel, J. Sibelius

4) For the category COMPOSED BETWEEN 1900 AND 1970 there is the following restriction:
The works of the composers mentioned in 3) are not allowed in this category.

5) For the category COMPOSED AFTER 1970 there is the following restriction:
The works of D. Shostakovich are not allowed in this category.
