Our plans for this semester

A project for this year's "Güldener Herbst - Festival Alter Musik Thüringen" forms the focus of the main subject lessons in the summer semester 2024. This is in conjunction with the Anton Ulrich Collection of the Meiningen Museums.

On April 18, students went on an excursion to Meiningen with Prof. Jörn Arnecke. Under the guidance of musicologist Dr. Maren Goltz, curator of the Music History Collection, they were able to examine copies of Italian cantatas from the 18th century and try out the music in the castle church. In the spirit of artistic research, the students will analyze the musical texture and compose new works in the same style.

Early music students will perform the results in a concert on September 28, 2024 at 4 pm in the Augustinerkirche Gotha. The audience will be challenged to guess which pieces are Meiningen "originals" and which are new compositions by the students.

Further highlights of the excursion were the opportunity for the students to leaf through manuscripts by Max Reger and to marvel at the exhibition of objects from Reger's estate and numerous instruments from the Meiningen collection.

And culinary delights were also provided in the castle's impressive tower café ...
