As a sub-project of the Fellowship 2020, digital training courses were developed for students, which are still running today and are constantly being optimized.

Content

This Moodle course uses the Canzonetta from Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's String Quartet op. 12 to guide you through the basics of ear training. The explanations are supplemented by digital exercises.

They are divided into the following topics:

  • Rhythm
  • Scales
  • Melody part
  • Bass part
  • Triads and tetrachords
  • Polyphonic listening

Example: Hearing and determining seventh chords

1st task:

You will hear four-note chords which, under certain conditions, can take on the function of major subdominant fifth sixth chords and should be regarded as such here. Each four-note chord is struck twice in succession. Indicate the position.

  • 1 = root position
  • 3 = first inversion
  • 5 = second inversion
  • 6 = third inversion
