Liszt fragments

Piano works by Franz Liszt were the focus of a project with students majoring in music theory from the classes of Prof Jörn Arnecke and Marcus Aydintan. Various sketches, a fragment and an album leaf by Franz Liszt were used to create piano pieces in the composer's style during the 2020/2021 winter semester. Prior to this, works and drafts from his sketchbooks were analysed in terms of their form, harmony and compositional technique, for which digital copies from the Goethe and Schiller Archive in Weimar were also used.

As part of the 40th Weimar Liszt Days, the compositions were performed on 21 October 2022 in the Festsaal of the university - in connection with the awarding of an honorary doctorate to Nike Wagner, the great-great-granddaughter of Franz Liszt. A further presentation of the project took place at the Weimar Conference (XVI Central German Conference for Music Theory and Aural Education) on 23 February 2023.
