Konstantin Scherbakov | Piano

Konstantin Scherbakov was born in Siberia, where he began piano lessons at the age of five. At the age of eleven, he was introduced to the public with Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1. He studied at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory with the famous professor Lev Naumov. Scherbakov won the first Rachmaninoff Competition in Moscow and received prizes at international competitions in Montreal, Bolzano (Busoni), Zurich (Géza Anda) and Rome. He has given concerts all over the world with over 70 orchestras and has been invited to perform at many famous festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, Lucerne Festival, Ruhr Piano Festival, Bad Kissingen and Schubertiade. His repertoire includes over 50 piano concertos and the same number of solo programs with works of various styles and periods. In 1995, he was awarded the title of "BBC International Artist". Scherbakov has recorded over 40 CDs for "Marco Polo", "Naxos", EMI Classics and Two pianists labels. Many of them have been awarded prizes such as the Cannes Classical Award and the German Record Critics' Prize.
Since 1998 Konstantin Scherbakov has been professor at the Zurich University of the Arts and member of the jury at many renowned international competitions, e.g. Busoni in Bolzano, ARD in Munich, Liszt in Weimar, in Rio de Janeiro and in Seoul. He lives and works in Zurich, Moscow and Palamos on the Catalan coast.
