Hariolf Schlichtig |Viola

Born in 1950, violist Hariolf Schlichtig has made a name for himself as a chamber musician, soloist and teacher in the music world. After studying with Max Rostal and Sandor Vegh, he was a member of the Cherubini Quartet for 19 years, winning international competitions, traveling around the world, making widely acclaimed CD recordings, and performing at world-class festivals. As a soloist he has performed in the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, in the Herkulessaal in Munich, in the Conservatoire of Brussels, at the Bonn Beethoven Festival, in the Tonhalle Zürich and in Carnegie Hall New York. He has been active as a chamber musician alongside partners such as Leonidas Kavakos, Andras Schiff, Heinz Holliger, Emmanuel Pahud, the Alban Berg Quartet and the ensemble Villa Musica as well as at festivals such as the Edinburgh Festival, Kunstfest Weimar, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg and Pfingstkonzerte Ittingen. His CD recordings have been awarded the German Record Prize (Deutschen Schallplattenpreis), Echo Klassik, Diapason d'Or and Choc de la Musique. Hariolf Schlichtig has been professor of viola and chamber music at the Hochschule for Music and Performing Arts in Munich since 1987.
