Christiane Iven was internationally active as an opera and concert singer from 1986-2015.
She began her singing career as a mezzo-soprano and later switched to soprano. She has given concerts with major orchestras under the baton of Marc Albrecht, Teodor Currentzis, Michael Gielen, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Heinz Holliger, Julia Jones, Marko Letonja, Shao-Chia Lu, Sir Neville Marriner, Matthias Pintscher, Christian Zacharias and Lothar Zagrosek, among others.
Her recitals with the pianists Burkhard Kehring, Igor Levit, András Schiff and Jan Philip Schulze were an important part of her concert activity.
Christiane Iven was a permanent ensemble member at various theatres, many of them at the Stuttgart State Opera. There and at other German and European opera houses she worked with the directorial team of Jossi Wieler and Sergio Morabito, Calixto Bieito, Claus Guth, Andreas Homoki, Peter Konwitschny, Luc Perceval, Stephan Herheim and Andrea Moses, among others.
Since 2013, Christiane Iven has held a professorship for singing at the Munich University of Music and Theatre and also teaches at the August Everding Theatre Academy. In addition, she works as a coach and consultant in the fields of music, theatre and music education.
In 2023, Christiane Iven will make her debut as a director with a new production of Verdi's "La Traviata" at the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau.
