Clarinetist and conductor Charles Neidich has established a worldwide reputation as one of today's most fascinating virtuosos, and his career has taken him around the globe with renowned orchestras and conductors. A passionate advocate of new music and a composer, he has expanded the technical and expressive possibilities of the clarinet and championed the works of many of the world's most important composers.
As one of the leading performers on period instruments, he has restored and reconstructed original versions of works from Mozart to Copland. An enthusiastic chamber musician, Neidich is a member of the renowned New York Woodwind Quintet and an emeritus member of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
Neidich has a repertoire of more than 200 solo works, including pieces he has written, commissioned or inspired, as well as his own transcriptions of vocal and instrumental works. Neidich's discography continues to grow, and his recorded repertoire ranges from the familiar works to lesser-known works to music by Elliott Carter and other contemporary masters.
A musician of Russian and Greek descent, Neidich has gained wide recognition as a teacher in addition to his work as a musician and is currently a member of the artist faculties of the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Mannes College of Music.
Neidich is in demand as a guest lecturer at numerous summer festivals and master classes.
