Musicology in Weimar

Transcultural Music Studies (TMS) is one of a total of five sub-disciplines of musicology with which students complete their studies at the Department of Musicology Weimar-Jena. In addition, students of cultural or social sciences at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena can take the TMS profile in the minor subject of musicology and also write their final thesis in it.

Profile Transcultural Music Studies

The Transcultural Music Studies profile opens up a wealth of tasks, perspectives and subject-related cooperation possibilities. The musical-transcultural focus at TMS is a specialisation, a profile area with its own methodological focus on "music culture".

In the teaching area and Master's profile "Transcultural Music Studies", the approaches of comparative musicology/ethnic musicology at the Department of Musicology Weimar-Jena are continued by giving students the opportunity to get to know and examine music research in the context of current questions of cultural globalisation and different transfer processes.
