Church music

1. Organ (approx. 15 minutes)

Performance of
  • a work of the "Old Masters"
  • a choral prelude, as well as an additional free work of J. S. Bach
  • a work from the 19th or 20th centuries

2. Organ Improvisation, Accompaniment (approx. 10 minutes)

  • Intonation of 3 (differently varied) stanzas of a self-selected hymn/ church song

3. Choir Conducting (approx. 20 minutes)

  • Rehearsal and fine-tuning of three choral works of the applicant’s choice with a studio choir
  • Evidence of the ability to sight-sing will be tested

4. Piano (approx. 15 minutes)

The applicant shall provide the audition committee with a list of prepared pieces, consisting of works from the Baroque, Classical, 19th, and 20th/ 21st centuries. Memorization of these works is not required.


5. Singing, Speaking (approx. 15 minutes)

Singing

Performance of
  • a church song (without accompaniment)
  • an easy art song or spiritual concerto
  • an additional vocal work of the applicant's choosing
Should piano accompaniment be necessary, the applicant must provide music to all pieces at least 4 weeks before the audition.


Speaking

Performance of
  • a prose text (max. 1 page)
  • a poem



Diploma (A), after successfully completed Diploma Church Music (B)

1. Organ (approx. 15 minutes)

Performance of in all 4 large-scale works for organ from various musical eras


2. Organ Improvisation, Accompaniment (approx. 15 minutes)

a) Unprepared: Intonation and 3 (differently varied) stanzas to a hymn/church song

b) Prepared:
  • A festive prelude and 3 (differently varied) stanzas to a hymn
  • Performance of a large improvisation (approx. 6–8 minutes), either a multi-movement partita or a passacaglia or an improvisation on a Gregorian theme or an improvisation on a twelve-tone theme
  • Meditation on a given text (approx. 3 minutes)
The pieces to be prepared will be provided punctually to all applicants


3. Choir Conducting (approx. 20 minutes)

  • Evidence of relevant abilities will be tested through sight-reading

4. Piano (approx. 15 minutes)

The applicant shall provide the audition committee with a list of prepared pieces, consisting of works from the Baroque, Classical, 19th, and 20th/21st centuries. Memorization of these works is not required.
