Sean Prieske studied musicology, media studies and German linguistics in Berlin and Newcastle. He is currently working on his dissertation on music in the context of forced migration at the Chair of Transcultural Musicology and Historical Anthropology of Music at the Humboldt University of Berlin and at the UNESCO Chair on Transcultural Music Studies at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar. Since 2022 he has been a research assistant at the Department of Musicology at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar.

In addition to his research, he has taught at various German universities and colleges. In 2021, he led a research group on German-Turkish music exchange at the Berlin University Alliance together with Utku Öğüt. In addition, he works as a freelance musicologist and musician and runs the musicological podcast "Musikgespräch" together with Daniel Siebert. He was a scholarship holder of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, winner of the SEMPRE Conference Award and the Maria Hanáček Award of the IASPM D-A-CH.
