System accreditation
The university has undergone the system accreditation procedure and was the first German Music university to be system-accredited under the new law - by the Accreditation Council - with the decision of the Accreditation Council on 8 December 2022.
It convinced the evaluation commission appointed by the accreditation agency and the Accreditation Council of its quality assurance system for teaching and studies and demonstrated the implementation of nationwide and state-specific quality criteria for both its system and its study programmes. With the new seal of approval, the university gains a great deal of autonomy and can accredit its entire range of study programmes independently of external agencies. On the one hand, it is responsible for reviewing the quality and performance of the study programmes and, on the other hand, supports their systematic and continuous qualitative development.
The commission's report attests to the university's "high awareness of a culture of quality in teaching and learning". The reviewers praised the "high motivation of university members with regard to the implementation and application of quality management" as well as the diverse and flexible range of survey instruments, which make it possible to respond to specific situational needs and requirements. "In this way, the special situation of teaching at a Music university is taken into account through special formats".
The awarding of the seal to the Weimar Music university is an important milestone in a process lasting several years, which was characterised by challenges for the university community and also necessitated structural changes. The aim was and is to combine strong interdisciplinary and cross-functional co-operation and a high level of personal responsibility with a wide range of creative freedom.
The objectives, tasks, participants and responsibilities of the quality assurance system are set out in the statutes for internal quality assurance and development at the university.
