As a director of musical theatre, Gineke Pranger writes and stages new works that take an interdisciplinary and experimental approach at the intersection of musical theatre, performance and sound art.
Gineke Pranger initially studied instrumental performance at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and at the Berlin University of the Arts. As a musician, Gineke specialised in contemporary music, historical performance practice and forms of free improvisation.
Driven by a desire to expand her artistic practice beyond music, Gineke Pranger began a Bachelor’s degree in directing for drama and music theatre at the August Everding Theatre Academy in Munich in 2016. There, Gineke studied under Sebastian Baumgarten and Christiane Pohle, among others. In 2023, she successfully completed her Master’s degree there. Subsequently, Gineke Pranger worked as resident director at the Theater Pfütze in Nuremberg, where several new music theatre works for young audiences were created. Since then, Gineke Pranger has worked at various theatres in Germany as well as within the independent theatre scene, with performances at venues including the Radialsystem, the Philharmonie Berlin, the Theater im Delphi and the Ballhaus Ost, and at festivals such as Hidalgo – Festival für Junge Klassik and the Klangzeitfestival Münster.
