About us

Professional opera training – with stage, ambition and heart.

Those who study with us receive not only lessons, but also a well-thought-out education of the highest standard.

The Department of Vocal Studies and Theatre at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar is one of the most traditional training centres for scenic music in Germany – and is anything but old-fashioned.

What sets us apart.

Here, we don't just practise – we perform.

In our own studio theatre with an orchestra pit, our students rehearse and perform under real conditions: with lighting, technology, costumes and an audience. From their first year onwards, they regularly appear on stage – in university productions, as part of the Thuringian Opera Studio or in cooperation with renowned theatres in the region.

Practice – with a capital P.

The programme combines singing, acting, stage speech, movement and bodywork into a coherent whole.

Role preparation, scenic lessons, song interpretation – everything intertwines and prepares students specifically for their profession.

Workshops and masterclasses on topics such as improvisation, Italian recitatives or developing potential broaden the spectrum.

Internationally networked – strong in everyday life.

With Erasmus+, international guest lecturers and an active exchange programme, Weimar is not an island.

At the same time, the campus offers a personal, focused environment – with short distances, inspiring spaces (such as Belvedere Palace) and a climate in which artistic work is a matter of course.

In short:

Anyone who is serious about singing – and wants to be on stage – will find the full programme here:

strong in technical skills, artistically free, personally close.
