Tim Jäkel (born 1979 in Suhl) studied musicology and jazz trumpet at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and works as an arranger, composer, trumpet player, big band leader and lecturer. He is mainly active in the jazz-pop crossover field and writes for the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the WDR Funkhausorchester and the WDR Big Band, among others.

As an arranger and artistic director, he has worked with artists such as Clueso, Manfred Krug, Rolf Zuckowski, Bodo Wartke, Max Prosa and Dota Kehr, both live and in the studio. He has also conducted two German tours by Alin Coen with the Stüba Philharmonic Orchestra and regularly brings together pop artists and big band music as arranger and director of the Tramp Cats Big Band.

Tim Jäkel is also musical director and trumpet instructor of the Thuringia State Youth Big Band, musical director of the Ilmenau University Big Band, instructor at the "Makin' Jazz" workshop organised by the Saxony-Anhalt State Music Council, instructor at the "Jazz-Welten" big band meeting organised by the Saxon Music Council and guest instructor at various jazz workshops and big bands in central Germany.
