Prof. Claudia Buder

Claudia Buder was born and raised in Leipzig. She completed her studies with Prof. Ivan Koval at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar, and with Prof. Mie Miki at the Folkwang Universität der Künste Essen. She has won prizes at many national and international competitions, including the first prize at the 3rd Competition for Music of the 20th Century, 1994.

A variety of opportunities for learning and teaching have broadened Claudia Buder's horizons. International teaching positions have led her to the Turku University of Applied Sciences, Finland, the University Prešov, Slovakia, and the ARTEZ Enschede, Netherlands. The education of children and young people is a special concern of her. So she leads alongside masterclasses also promoting courses at an international level. She became a professor at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar in 2007. In winter semester 2009, she founded the accordion specialisation at the Hochschule für Musik in Münster.

Claudia Buder is entranced by the versatility of her instrument. Her chamber-music activities, with a number of different ensembles, have been documented in a range of CDs (academy label, animato, bis, hänssler classic); she has also performed with larger ensembles such as the Ensemble Ascolta, Ensemble Avantgardes and the Ensemble Modern. Claudia Buder performed the accordion parts in the world premiere of Alfon Karl Zwicker's opera Death and the Maiden, the German premiere of the new orchestration of Alban Berg’s Lulu, and the German premiere of Georges Asperghis’ opera Les Boulingrins. She has appeared as soloist with ensembles such as the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, BBC Philharmonic and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, and has commissioned numerous new works from composers such as HK Gruber, Georg Katzer, Steffen Schleiermacher, Rebecca Saunders and Annette Schlünz.
