Michael Schiefel studied jazz singing and composition at the Berlin University of the Arts and has been giving concerts since the early 1990s. During his studies in Berlin, the singer began experimenting with the expressive possibilities of loop devices and other electronics. Since then, he has toured the world with his solo vocal programmes, including as a guest of the Goethe-Institut.

In addition to his solo activities, Michael Schiefel also works in many band formations, e.g. in a duo with David Friedman, in his Istanbul Quartet, the Platypus Trio, Wood & Steel Trio, Thärichens Tentett and many more. He has performed at festivals all over the world, such as the North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands), Jarasum Jazz Festival (South Korea), JZ Festival (China), Earshot Jazz Festival (USA), Mediawave Festival (Hungary), Eunics Festival (Chile), Jazzfest Berlin and many more.

Schiefel has been a professor of jazz singing at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar since 2001.  In 2013, he won the ECHO Jazz Award as "National Singer of the Year". In addition to his music career, Michael Schiefel was also involved in the development of "MikeLoop", an iPad loop application for singers that can be found in the Apple Store.
