Wolfgang Döberlein, Germany

He is a true all-rounder: in addition to a solo and educational career Wolfgang Döberlein is also active as a Lied-accompanist and chamber musician. He has performed almost all of the song cycles of Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann with renowned singers, as well as succeeding as a member of chamber music ensembles such as the Vlach Quartet in Prague, the Residenz Quartet in Würzburg and in duos and trios with members of the European Union Youth Orchestra. In a rare combination of guitar and piano, he sides with the guitarist Maximilian Mangold, creating a unique chamber music partnership. Several composers have written works for this particular duo. Born in Rehau in Upper Franconia in 1962, Wolfgang Döberlein appeared as a soloist with Ludwig van Beethoven's 3rd piano concerto at the age of fifteen. He studied piano in Salzburg and Würzburg and is today a professor at the Hochschule für evangelische Kirchenmusik in Bayreuth. Since 2003 he has also been its vice rector.
