Muza Rubackyte, Lithuania

Her passion for the works of Franz Liszt is also expressed in her concert programs; Muza Rubackyte performed the twelve Transcendental Etudes of Liszt at the Festival Radio France Montpellier and all three volumes of the Années de pèlerinage were heard at recitals in Bayreuth. Born in Lithuania, this pianist commutes back and forth between her various residences in Vilnius, Paris and Geneva. In her homeland, she was repeatedly honoured by the Lithuanian President for her services as a cultural ambassador. In Vilnius she has also founded a biennial piano music festival. Muza Rubackyte, who studied in Moscow and first gained attention in 1981 with the Grand Prix at the International Liszt Bartók Piano Competition in Budapest, is a sought-after artist throughout Europe. She has made a name for herself with her recording of the 24 Preludes and Fugues by Dmitri Shostakovich as well as with her interpretations of the piano concerto Resurrection by Krzysztof Penderecki.
