This Japanese pianist specializes in historical keyboard instruments. He frequently plays concerts on English as well as on Viennese fortepianos built from 1800 to 1830. In addition to this he also plays on the historical grand pianos of Ignaz Josef Pleyel, Johann Babtist Streicher, Sébastien Érard as well as the Viennese piano manufacturer Bösendorfer from the period 1840 to 1930. In the current 2018 season he plans to perform the complete violin sonatas of Ludwig van Beethoven, together with the violinist Yasushi Toyoshima. He will play on contemporary instruments of the brands Mattäus Stein, John Broadwood and Conrad Graf. Born in 1966 in Japan, the son of a musical family, Makoto Ueno went as early as the age of 16 to the renowned Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, followed later by studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Since 1996 he has been teaching as a piano professor at the Kyoto University of Arts. Masterclasses have already taken him to South Korea, Thailand, Germany, Turkey and Portugal.
