Raising awareness
Steering Group is planning a buddy program, workshops, and flyers
Issues surrounding abuse of power, discrimination, health, and respectful coexistence are currently receiving increased attention not only in society but also at universities. These issues make it clear that it is necessary to develop structures in which greater safety and trust for everyone exist. The Awareness Steering Group is currently designing measures to help create a safer environment for studying, teaching, research, and collaboration.
The Awareness Steering Group consists of representatives from the University of Music, the Student Council (StuRa), the student Awareness Working Group, the ASA, the International Office, and the LQE, co-organized and moderated by Dr. Jens Ewen, Vice President for Strategic University Development. Starting in the 2026/27 winter semester, a buddy program will be piloted to support new students as they settle in and to serve as an accessible first point of contact during exam periods. We are now looking for dedicated students to participate!
Throughout the year, workshops on topics such as performance pressure, resilience, and destigmatizing mental illness will also be offered for students, faculty, and administrative staff alike. In addition, training sessions on respectful communication are planned, building on existing formats such as the Dies academicus.
A multilingual flyer will soon provide a clear overview of all counseling and support services offered by the University of Music, thereby streamlining the complaint management process. A mission statement on the handling of power at our university is also being developed through a participatory process. Further information on these initiatives can be found at: https://www.hfm-weimar.de/hochschule/internationales/aktuelles
The Liszt Buddy Program supports first-semester students as they settle into life in Weimar and navigate daily student life at the University of Music. Experienced students accompany
new students during their first semester, serving as points of contact for questions regarding their studies, the university, and daily life. International students in particular benefit from cultural exchange, practical support, and new connections.
