Born in Hagen, Westphalia, Ekhart Wycik began his career as a classical conductor after studying in Düsseldorf and Vienna. Following several positions at various German opera houses, he joined the Dortmund Theatre in 2006 as principal conductor and deputy general music director. His international career began with his simultaneous appointment as Principal Guest Conductor at the Wichita Grand Opera in Kansas, which took him to opera and concert venues throughout Europe, Asia and the United States on numerous occasions.
Ekhart Wycik was supported by the Conductors' Forum of the German Music Council and received several DAAD scholarships both as a student and as a lecturer. Over the course of his long career, he has built up a stylistically diverse repertoire of over 70 musical theatre works and a broad concert repertoire, repeatedly proving himself as a reliable stand-in conductor.
Since 2016, he has been teaching orchestral conducting at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar.
