Rules and Regulations

  1. The 11th International FRANZ LISZT Piano Competition Weimar – Bayreuth is open to pianists of all nationalities who were born after 1 January 1993. The management may make exceptions in certain cases.
  2. The competition is comprised of a pre-selection/audition and four rounds of judging. The first round of the competition will take place in Bayreuth and all other rounds will take place in Weimar.The competition is open to the public in all four rounds.
  3. The order of performance for the competitors is determined by random selection in the form of a lottery system. The organiser reserves the right to make exceptions to this rule in justified cases.
  4. The order of works to be performed in each level can be determined by the candidate.
  5. All works must be performed from memory, exception: chamber music in the semi-final.
  6. The candidates must perform different works in each round. Exception: The Schubert/Liszt song transcription from the preliminary round c) may also be performed in the 2nd round under b).
  7. Programme changes are not possible after 1 August 2024
  8. Prizes will be awarded directly following the final concert in Weimar. It is obligatory for the prize winner to take part in a prize winner's concert in Bayreuth without receiving a fee.
  9. The competition may be recorded or transmitted and all recordings are the property of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar. The participants agree to this and do not have any publication rights.
  10. The competition will cover accommodation costs in prearranged facilities in Weimar for candidates who have reached the second round.
  11. The decision of the jury is final. An appeal of the decision is not possible.
  12. By registering, candidates accept all rules and regulations of the competition, as well as possible changes in the jury.
