Language Centre
The Sprachenzentrum | Centre for Language and Cultural Learning is one of the central facilities of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
They offer several language courses, most importantly German as a foreign language. It is also possible to take the German Language Examination for University Admission (DSH) there.
New students can enrol in an intensive language course to prepare for your studies, which takes place in the month before the start of the semester.
We especially recommend this “Kompaktkurs” to our exchange and ERASMUS students. If the German intensive course is included in your Erasmus+ Learning Agreement, you will be exempt from the course fees.
To enrol, please follow this procedure:
- Register at https://studip.uni-weimar.de;
- Register for a placement test if you already have some knowledge of German (at least A 1.1) The placement test is an online test. Please click here for detailed information (printable PDF file).
- Send the test result to E-Test-DaF[at]uni-weimar.de.
After submitting your test result, you will be registered for a suitable course by the responsible teachers.

The 3-week German | Compact language course for the summer semester 2026 takes place 9–27 March 2026 (levels: A1–B2/C1)
