Enrolment Ceremony
New students were welcomed
We are delighted to welcome new faces to our university: for the 2026 summer semester, the FRANZ LISZT University of Music in Weimar is pleased to welcome 92 new students. They were officially enrolled on Monday, 13 April in the Saal Am Palais, with a ceremony accompanied by music. They were welcomed by University President Prof. Anne-Kathrin Lindig and Leonard Friese, Chair of the Student Council. A total of 863 young musicians, music educators and musicologists are currently studying at the Weimar Music University.
Of the 92 new students, 72 are beginning their studies in Weimar for the first time; the remainder are continuing their education, for example, as they transition from a Bachelor’s to a Master’s degree. The group of ‘freshers’ comprises 29 German and 43 international students who have come to Weimar from various parts of the world – including all regions of Asia, South America and many European countries.
The largest increases this time are recorded by the Department of Musicology Weimar-Jena (including Arts Management) with a total of 21 students and the Department of Music Education and Church Music with 15 students. These are followed by the Departments of String Instruments and Harp and the Department of Wind Instruments and Percussion, each with 12 new students, the Department of Vocal Studies and Theatre with 11, the Department of Early Music with 9, and the Department of Piano with 8 new students.
