From Goethe to Gounod
‘A fistful of theatre’ on two multi-layered evenings at the Belvedere Studio Theatre
In keeping with the Klassik Stiftung Weimar's theme year ‘Faust’, the FRANZ LISZT University of Music in Weimar invites you to a multi-layered stage production.
‘A fistful of theatre’ offers a varied stage experience with singing, acting, dance, video design and performance on Thursday, 3 July and Friday, 4 July at 7:30 pm in the Belvedere Studio Theatre. Admission is free on both evenings!
In the inner courtyard of the theatre and in the Belvedere Studio Theatre itself, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's ‘Faust. The First Part of the Tragedy’ will be performed in an original version that combines classic scenes from the drama with scenes from Charles Gounod's opera ‘Faust’ and other songs and ensembles.
The approximately 90-minute performance is a contribution by the Department of Vocal Studies and Theatre to the Faust Year in Weimar and shows how lively, ambiguous and timeless Goethe's work can still be interpreted today.
Bachelor's and Master's students present an interdisciplinary approach to the iconic play – poetic, musical and physically intense.
‘A special highlight of the production is the elaborately designed video, which not only serves as a visual backdrop, but also intensifies the atmosphere of the action and opens up additional levels of meaning,’ explains director Jochen Biganzoli, who teaches music theatre/stage direction at the Weimar Music University.
‘The visual design thus becomes an integral part of the dramaturgical concept and lends the performance a haunting aesthetic depth.’
The project is directed by Jochen Biganzoli and Thomas C. Zinke. Thomas Lippick is responsible for stage and video design, and Bernadette Nieslony is designing the costumes. Daniel Schauder is the technical director.
‘A fistful of theatre’ promises an exciting interplay of tradition and experimentation and is aimed at anyone who is equally enthusiastic about young theatre art, classical literature and musical theatre.
