Panel discussion and concert

Greek composers as well as composers of Greek origin of the Diaspora

As part of the colloquium on current research questions at the Institute of Musicology Weimar-Jena, the focus is on Greece. A panel discussion on the topic of "Greek composers and composers of Greek origin in the diaspora" will take place on Tuesday, 10 October at 5:00 pm in the lecture hall of the University Centre at the Horn. On Wednesday, 11 October at 6:30 pm, a discussion concert including a guest lecture will begin at the same venue. Admission is free.

In the discussion concert on 11 October at 6:30 pm, the pianist Uwe Matschke, professor of piano at the Macedonian University in Thessaloniki, and his daughter, the violinist Dr. Danae Papamatthäou-Matschke, will present a rarely heard chamber music programme, which will be framed by lectures by the two musicians.

The programme will present works by Greek composers as well as composers of Greek origin from the Diaspora. The programme will include the Suite on Greek Folk Melodies of the Dodecanese by Yannis Constantinidis and the Sonata for Violin and Piano by Boris Papandopulo.

Uwe Matschke studied with Prof. Juliane Lerche at the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar and at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest. He then moved to Athens, where he was appointed full professor of piano at the Macedonian University of Thessaloniki in 2001. Prof. Matschke has performed on stages throughout Europe and produced numerous radio and television recordings.

Danae Papamatthäou-Matschke studied with Prof. Igor Ozim at the University Mozarteum Salzburg and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. She is a prize-winner of numerous competitions and has already given guest performances in major music centres such as the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the Beijing National Performing Arts Center. Danae Papamatthäou-Matschke plays on a violin by Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi, Milan 1760.
