Violinist Larissa Cidlinsky plays her concert exam under star conductor Vladimir Jurowski
With the rarely performed 1st Violin Concerto by Polish composer Karol Szymanowski, a young violinist is completing her concert exam as the highest artistic degree at the Weimar Music university: Larissa Cidlinsky is the soloist in the university symphony concert on Thursday, 12 December at 7:30 pm in the Weimarhalle. The concert will be conducted by star conductor Vladimir Jurowski, who is already rehearsing intensively with the orchestra in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus.
‘I particularly love the musical language of Szymanowski,’ says Larissa Cidlinsky about the composer of her solo piece. ’He uses so many different characters and colours, creating a very sensual work. The piece is magnificently orchestrated – with a huge symphonic apparatus that immediately sweeps the listener away into a sound frenzy.’
The violin has shaped her life in every respect, the musician reveals. ‘The violin opens up endless possibilities and a huge repertoire that inspires you for life. But for me, the magic in music lies in the constant search for new ways of expressing myself.’
In addition to Szymanowski's Violin Concerto, the symphony concert also features Anton Bruckner's buoyant ‘Nullte’ (zero) Symphony in D minor and Arnold Schoenberg's expressive ‘Begleitmusik zu einer Lichtspielszene’ (accompanying music for a film scene). Admission tickets are available in advance at the Tourist Information Weimar for 20 euros (concession 15 euros) and at the box office.
International prizewinner Larissa Cidlinsky is building a reputation as an outstanding and versatile violinist. She was recently honoured with a scholarship from the German Music Competition and the EMF Pirastro Young Artist Award. She took part in the Kronberg Academy's ‘Chamber Music Connects the World’ festival, where she performed with Gidon Kremer, Tabea Zimmermann, Jörg Widmann and Christian Tetzlaff. In 2020, she won a violin by Nicolas Lupot (Paris 1810) in the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben competition.
Together with cellist Anton Spronk, she is the initiator and artistic director of the ‘Eggenfelden klassisch’ festival. During her scholarship at Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz, she performed with Fazil Say, Baiba and Lauma Skride, Martin Beaver, Wen Xiao Zheng, Roland Glassl and the Calidore String Quartet.
The young violinist has been a guest at international festivals such as the Krzyzowa Music Festival, the IMS Prussia Cove, the Kammermusikfestival Regensburg, the Dynamikfest Salzburg, the Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, the Rheingau Musikfestival, the Kronberg Academy, the Nordisches Kammermusikfestival and Zeeland Klassiek (Holland).
Larissa Cidlinsky studied with Igor Ozim (Mozarteum Salzburg), Donald Weilerstein (Juilliard School in New York), Ulf Wallin (University of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin), Ana Chumachenco (Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía) and Janine Jansen (HEMU Vaud-Valais). She completed her master's and concert exam studies with Friedemann Eichhorn in Weimar. She received scholarships from the Neue Liszt Stiftung, Jürgen Ponto Stiftung, DAAD Stiftung and Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
