Exchange and reflection
Second “Teaching Day” at the Fürstenhaus of the University of Music
On Wednesday, 12 November 2025, the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar invites you to the 2nd Teaching Day at the Fürstenhaus at Platz der Demokratie 3. The day offers teachers, students, and staff a space for exchange, new ideas, and joint reflection on teaching and learning experiences at the University of Music.
As in the previous year, the day will be devoted to a joint discussion of questions relating to good teaching – in all its facets and challenges. Workshops, discussion rounds, and a newly introduced poster walk, at which innovative teaching projects by teachers and students will be presented, will open up a wide range of perspectives on current topics in music education and university didactics.
“Teaching is of paramount importance at our university,” the invitation states. “It is particularly important to us to think together about how teaching and learning take place and how teaching can and must change in the face of changing requirements.”
The morning will be devoted to a joint workshop on the topic of “Dealing with closeness and boundaries in the classroom.” Led by intimacy coordinator and director Magz Barrawasser (Hanns Eisler Academy of Music Berlin, among others), the workshop will address issues of mutual consent, professional closeness, and emotional sustainability in everyday teaching at music academies.
The afternoon will feature short workshops on various topics, including:
- Video applications for orchestra positions (with Tatjana Irmscher and Tobias Haupt, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra)
- Writing and composing with generative AI
- Researching in the university library
- A teaching and exhibition project on the 175th anniversary of Wagner's Lohengrin, combining musicological research and public outreach
The day will conclude with a panel discussion on “Scope and areas of tension: freedom of choice for students and teachers.”
All teachers and students are cordially invited to actively participate and discuss future issues in teaching.
The complete programme can be found here.
